Registration for the NST of 2006 is being conducted in all secondary schools during the period of March 1 – April 7, 2006. Those who graduated in previous years may register in the local departments of education. To register for the test, it is necessary to bring a passport (or birth certificate), and two 3x4 photos. The previous years’ graduates also need to have their certificates of completing secondary school (attestats).
The NST scores are required during enrollment to the budget places in state higher educational institutions of Kyrgyzstan. The candidates have the right to use them in the competition for contract places, as well.
The registration fee for the NST in 2006 is 200 soms for the main test, and 200 soms for each of the subject tests.
The structure of the test remains the same as in previous years, although the test administration process has improved significantly. All test variants are of equal complexity. This is very important in creating equal test conditions for all students. The students may choose one of three languages in which they want to take the test: Kyrgyz, Russian, and Uzbek. The test measures the students’ ability to study at a higher educational institution.
The main test is obligatory for all the registered students. Its structure is as follows: 1) «Math» - 90 minutes, 60 questions, 2) «Analogies and Sentence Completion» - 30 minutes, 30 questions, 3) «Reading Comprehension» - 60 minutes, 30 questions, and 4) «Practical Grammar of Native Language» - 35 minutes, 30 questions.
Subject tests are taken by the students who have chosen specialties requiring the scores of these tests. The tests are on the following subjects: English and German - 60 minutes, 50 questions each, Chemistry – 80 minutes, 40 questions, and Biology - 60 minutes, 40 questions. The scores on subjects tests are calculated and reported separately from those of the main test.
All registered students will receive a notice about the place and date of the test and a “Preparing for the National Scholarship Test” booklet in Kyrgyz, Russian, or Uzbek. The booklet contains useful information about the test: how to prepare for it, examples of test questions, and testing rules and procedures.
CEATM has published study guides for the main test and for the subject tests that can be purchased during registration. The study guide for the main test costs -170 soms; Chemistry and Biology – 120 soms; and English and German – 100 soms. In order to provide equal conditions for all, CEATM does not conduct any official courses preparing for the NST.
The NST will be administered late May, 2006, in 90 testing centers all over the country. Teams of specially trained test administrators will ensure that all students take the test in equal conditions through special standardized procedures and strict rules. Score certificates will be distributed to all test-takers in their schools during Prom Balls. Previous years’ graduates may receive their score certificates at the local educational departments.
